A decade ago, a U.S.-based marketing software company, SOCi, began its global expansion, lured by promising new markets in various parts of the world. But the company quickly found that hiring, paying and supporting talent in each new market was a major challenge. The company’s hiring and payroll partners worked fine in the U.S., but weren't suited to a multi-country expansion.

The company soon learned that the payroll and HR software market is split into many different tools around the world, each solving only part of the problem. Therefore, there was no source of truth for hiring and payroll, which meant their team had to export data to their internal files, leading to repetitive manual entry that was error prone. Furthermore, there were no on-the-ground HR, payroll, and compliance experts to answer questions and keep them abreast of legal and regulatory changes on a global level. And each new market and vendor required a different data infrastructure that couldn't easily integrate with the company’s other chosen systems.

Many companies struggle with these issues today. Trying to piece together different payroll and HR systems often leads to incorrect information sharing, wasted time and effort, and a frustrating experience for workers, people managers, and business leaders alike. As companies expand globally, these problems only get worse – especially if parts of their system don’t integrate with one another.

Some HR tech companies have tried to fix this problem – either by creating insular, all-in-one platforms that don’t work well with other tools, or by serving as a simple interface for customers, while outsourcing and aggregating relationships with other vendors. But in today’s global business world, companies need HR and payroll systems that are comprehensive, reliable, and flexible enough to adapt to each organization’s unique operations.

So at Deel, we take a different approach: by offering an end-to-end payroll and HR solution that works smoothly with other software, and is built on our own infrastructure (leveraging our 350+ in-house legal and compliance experts, 100+ owned and operated entities, and 50+ native payroll engines around the world) – so we’re accountable for answers.

Interoperable

Deel’s all-in-one platform is designed to be flexible and integrate with the other tools and partners, letting customers choose the solutions that work best for them as they scale. We work hard to partner and integrate with other companies – even our competitors – across all our services: including HRIS, payroll services, IT and equipment, EOR, applicant tracking and more. And we make it easy for customers to use the popular tools they want – like Workday, Quickbooks, Okta, SAP, Greenhouse and Carta – alongside our system. We’ve even created a community for software developers in HR tech to share insights, feedback and collaborate.

This openness and flexibility is very different from the closed-off, “walled garden” approach of some HR tech providers, which tries to lock customers into their proprietary systems by making it expensive and difficult to use other tools.

Built on our own infrastructure

And in contrast to some other HR tech providers’ aggregation approach – providing little more than a plain user interface (UI) wrapped around other vendors’ tools and solutions – Deel is building our own tech and operational infrastructure across every product line. This approach ensures that we have unparalleled control, accountability, visibility and in-house expertise. If a problem comes up, Deel's team (often including our CEO and top managers) can solve it directly without having to go through other companies. For customers, this means a smooth, quick, and consistent experience across all countries, and a single source of truth for data and updates. In this way, Deel acts as a true partner and extension of the customer’s team.

For SOCi, partnering with Deel meant they could sell their products and build their customer base globally, with team members in 25 countries, using a single system (Deel) for hiring, and payroll – while still relying on their existing partnerships with Netsuite for ERP and Greenhouse for applicant tracking. In other words, Deel helped the customer build their operating system their way.

At Deel, we aim to be the single best system for managing your global workforce. But in the end, our commitment to working well with other systems allows business and HR leaders to build their operations their way. This approach sets us apart in the HR tech world, giving customers the power to choose rather than being stuck with a system that doesn’t meet their needs or grow with them.

At Deel, we’re here to help you – and this approach is one of the primary ways we build trust and true partnership.
