Overtime Pay & Maximum Hours
Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. The standard work week is from Monday to Friday.
Overtime payment is mandatory. Hours outside of standard work hours are considered overtime. Employees can work a maximum of 96 hours of overtime per quarter and may not perform more than eight hours of overtime per week, nor exceed 200 hours per year. For additional hours, employees are paid:
- 150% of the hourly rate from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- 200% of the hourly rate after 8 p.m.

Termination Requirements
- Voluntarily by the employee
- By mutual agreement
- Unilaterally by the employer based on:
- Probation period
- Objective grounds
- Disciplinary dismissal
- Expiration of the contract
Notice Period
- Fixed-Term Agreement: At least 30 days' notice.
- Indefinite Agreement:
- 15 days' notice if service is more than 6 months but not more than 3 years.
- 30 days' notice if service is more than 3 years.
- Probation Period: 7 days' notice.
Severance for Employees
- General Severance Pay: Employees terminated due to structural, technological, or market reasons are entitled to a minimum of 30 days of salary for each year of service.
Paid Time Off
Both full-time and part-time employees in Mozambique are entitled to paid time off (PTO) as follows:
- First Year: 12 working days
- Second Year: 24 working days
- Third Year and Beyond 30 working days
PTO accrues monthly at the following rates:
- First Year: 1 day per month
- Second Year: 2 days per month
- Third Year and Beyond: 2.5 days per month

Employment Contract Details
Contracts must be in Portuguese and can be bilingual. They must be in writing and signed by both parties in wet ink.
A contract must include:
- Employee name
- Employee address
- ID type, number and validity date
- Taxpayer number
- Social Security number
- Start date
- Length of the employment
- Job description
- Probation period
- Notice period
- Termination conditions
- Employee compensation
Probation Period
- Indefinite contracts or fixed-term contracts lasting more than one year: The probation period is 90 days.
- Fixed-term contracts between 6 months and one year: The probation period is 30 days.
